Party Planning

The Bartending Doctor has had many of his patients request a remedy for curing bad party planning. Here are some basic steps to help cure those needs. The following remedies are based on a three hour party. You should have:

1. A pound of ice for every person (cocktail ice).

2. Three plastic glasses per person (9 or 10 oz only).

3. Only buy your basic name brand liquors: Vodka, Rum, Scotch, etc. Buy more of the vodka and rum. These two spirits are most popular at parties.

4. Don’t be afraid to over buy. Make sure that you do not open the bottle until you actually need to use it. This will allow you to return it if you don’t need it.

5. Buy your basic white wine. Try to avoid buying red wine. If someone spills a glass you will have a bigger problem getting the stain out if it’s a red wine.

6. Get your basic mixers such as OJ, cranberry juice, grapefruit juice, etc. Also get carbonated sodas, tonic, and a gallon of water.

7. Lemons and limes are also a good idea. You should have at least 1 lemon and 4 limes.

8. Have plenty of domestic beers, such as Miller Light, Bud, Bud Light, etc. Remember you must buy extra ice and coolers. Beer cans are better than beer bottles because glass can break. Pre-chill the beer before the party starts.

9. Do not allow under age drinking! You could lose your home.

10. If you need a bartender, your best bet is to call your local bartending school. The average charge is between $15 to $25 an hour with a minimum number of hours.

The Doctor also reminds you that drinking will vary depending or the type of party you're having (Wedding, Christening, etc.) Remember, at parties people will only drink what you serve them, and you can’t please everyone.
