Bartending Pay
My patients are always asking the bartending
doctor "what kind of money can I make as a bartender?"
The answer to that question is like the difference between
a cold and a flu. It varies and depends on many factors
including your personality, style, quality of service,
the type of room you're working in, or simply how many
customers you have to serve.
The average bartender can earn between
$500 to $800 a week depending on these factors. The
rule of thumb as far as hourly wages is: the higher
the salary the lower the tips, the lower the salary
the higher the tips.
A lot of patients also wonder if a
bartender usually makes more money at night? Now, I
polled my patients through the years and its really
a 50/50 split on this one. Depending on the room and
the environment you can make great money during the
day as well as during the night.
You may ask, "Is it true that
some bartenders make $1000 to $2000 per week?"
Well yes, however ,these jobs are few and far between.
These are the top jobs occupied by top bartenders in
most big cities. These positions are usually found in
the trendiest of hot spots, traditionally in the ultra-competitive
nightclub fields where, like all trends, they tend to
die out quicker than most as the fickle clientele finds
the next hot spot.
All in all, bartending is a good living
but you should also look for jobs that have benefits
as well as good pay, this way you have the best of both
worlds. These positions are out there, though they are
usually found more often in big corporation-type operations
such as luxury hotels and restaurant franchises (Hyatt,
Hilton, TGI Fridays, etc).
To get a good bartending
job, it helps to attend a bartending school so you
can learn everything you will need to know to be a professional
bartender. Bartending
Schools are found all over the nation, and as long
as you pick a licensed school, it is well worth the
cost of tuition because it will help you get a job where
you can earn a lot of money in the long run.
The Bartending Doctor wishes you luck
in your endeavor into bartending and hopes that all
of his patients will find great jobs and make lots of
money!
